Quick few lines ......

Not much V/Line travel in the past two weeks for the proverbial whinger, aside from two days last week and one day this week. One 'white elephant' trip to confirm mediocracy is the norm (51 minutes), Friday was able to catch the 5.13pm, which is a limited express with a first class, so much happiness there.

Yesterday was two off-peak trains, as I wasn't required in Melbourne until later & not the whole day, so dodgy old carriages (the ones with the hand-operated sliding doors) and one class - sorry I'm not a train-spotter so I can't tell you the exact designation or serial number.

I'm off work for the rest of the week as I'm between contract jobs so taking the opportunity to catch up on family stuff and personal stuff that has cropped up.

But this wouldn't be a proper blog without a whinge - my target is the Geelong City Council and the millions spent totally screwing up the road design through the CBD of Geelong and making it almost impossible to get around smoothly. Well done, someone to rival the incompetence of V/line and the State Government ... I'm trying to think of a name for an award to hand out ...

As for those who want to comment on this blog and have a go at me, well, it's pretty obvious by the title of the blog what the subject matter is, so why bother reading it if you don't agree. Go and start your own blog "vlinefanboi" or something. It's about as logical as going to a blog that complains about mother-in-laws when you are a mother-in-law and trying to expect people to listen to you! (true story, my sister told me!).

Not really realted, but I needed somewhere to talk Vline...

Twice in the last week I had to get buses.

Some poor soul died in the last accident, so don't takethis as a slight against them. I realise people had to make difficult decisions quickly in stressful conditions. So I can understand why someone in charge would say - "Stop trains - get replacement buses".

But given more time to think, I wonder if they would have run buses at all.

I wonder in the case of accidents, and in more general congested peak use, why cant Vline trains re-route through the multitude of freight tracks in Tottenham yard?
Of all the places to have an accident, I would have thought this was one of the few spots where you could still run trains despite the accident.

Are the tracks different gauges, dont they link up, does Pacific National not allow passenger trains through the yards?, did no-one think of this solution?,or did they just not want us to go past the scene of the accident?
It seems a bit weird to only ever use 2 tracks out of 20 for passenger trains.

I reckon the express trains could be 5 minutes faster if they were allowed to run express through the freight lines from Sunshine to West Footscray instead of using the same lines as the Suburban trains.

H cars, conversions of old Harris suburban carriages (blue trains)

why cant Vline trains re-route through the multitude of freight tracks in Tottenham yard

Three services (1 up, 2 down) were diverted on the goods lines before they reverted to gutter transport. In general the goods lines are too slow (a much lower speed limit), too congested (a kilometre or more freight train takes longer to clear out of the way) and they require down trains to cross over the up suburban line to get on and off them.

I believe there is a proposal to add another passenger line from West Footscray to Sunshine in order to relieve congestion, I'm not sure where that is up to, probably one of Batchelors famed studies.

Mate (pronounced long m-a-y-t), this is the unofficial Bendigo Line Whinger here. It's definitely still needed, this 1970's noddy railway company is still trying to get it's act together on our line, with the expected high degree of foulups, delays, etc. I've enjoyed free return tickets every month for the past year, as a result of the hopeless performance results. Currently hammering them over their ridiculous policy of not being able to use one's monthly ticket on another line (aka zoned ticketing). I suppose eventually all us whingers will help to drag these bunnies into the 21st Century !

why would you bring up geelong council on a vline blog site? That totally contradicts your earlier post when you critised others who might support vline? Or is the vlinewhinger becoming the worldwhinger? Or maybe no work makes jack a dull boy!

What is it you want to do with your ticket?

I also catch the Geeling line Vline trains & must say they are as bad nowas they were 12 months ago!!

This week alone...

Monday : the 8:07 departing Lara, had no seats available (AGAIN!!). COming home the clowns decided not to run the 17:36 no reason given, not even to the conductors. As a result 30 minutes later home.

Tuesday: Caught 7:42 (from Lara) & as always rocks into SC Stn almost 10 min late waiting for platform. Tuesday night, 17:36 had no train waiting, left around 17:48, 1 minute after the 17:47, therefore stuck behind it & 40 minutes late!!

Wednesday: 17:36 had an old stinking sprinter (the ones they use for weekends). So where has our $800 million gone so we can sit in these cramped, knee touching things?

hmmmmm
